چکیده

We study a class of utility functions that are defined recursively by an aggregator W (x, y) where ut =W ( ct , ut+1 ) . In single-agent economies it is known that a sufficient condition for the existence of a balanced growth path is that utility should be homogenous of degree . In the context of a multiagent economy we show that this restriction implies that either a balanced growth equilibrium fails to exist or all agents have the same constant discount factor. We suggest a generalization of recursive preferences wherein the intertemporal utility function is time dependent.Within this class we establish that there may exist a balanced growth equilibrium even if agents are different. © 2004 Elsevier Inc. Recursive Preferences and Balanced Growth1

We study a class of utility functions that are defined recursively by an aggregator W (x, y) where ut =W (ct, ut+1). In single-agent economies it is known that a sufficient condition for the existence of a balanced growth path is that utility should be homogenous of degree γ. In the context of a multi-agent economy we show that this restriction implies that either a balanced growth equilibrium ...

Consumption-Based Asset Pricing with Recursive Utility

In this paper it has been attempted to investigate the capability of the consumption-based capital asset pricing model (CCAPM), using the general method of moment (GMM), with regard to the Epstien-zin recursive preferences model for Iran's capital market. Generally speaking, recursive utility permits disentangling of the two psychologically separate concepts of risk aversion and elasticity of i...

Investigating the Role of real Money Balances in Households' Preferences function in the Framework of the Assets Pricing Models (M-CCAPM): Case study of Iran

In this paper, we try to develop and modify the basic model of the consumption-based capital asset pricing model by adding the growth in real money balances rate as a risk factor in the household's utility function as (M-CCAPM). For this purpose, two forms of utility function with constant relative risk aversion (CRRA) preferences and recursive preferences have been used such that M1 and M2 are...

P´olya Urn Models and Connections to Random Trees: A Review

This paper reviews P´olya urn models and their connection to random trees. Basic results are presented, together with proofs that underly the historical evolution of the accompanying thought process. Extensions and generalizations are given according to chronology: • P´olya-Eggenberger’s urn • Bernard Friedman’s urn • Generalized P´olya urns • Extended urn schemes • Invertible urn schemes ...

Parental Preferences over Children's Sex:The Case Study of Iran

The question of whether parents have preferences over their children’s sexes has long been of interest to economists and demographers. In this study, we first investigate the presence of these preferences among Iranian parents. Then, having established its existence, we next turn to characterize the quality of sex preference. There are two widely used methods for addressing this issue in the l...
